New Station Project
West Deer Township VFC # 3 purchased the former Krigger & Company building on Gibsonia Road (Route 910) with plans to relocate the fire station. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 1st, 2022. The renovations necessary to transition the building into a fire station were planned in three phases. The Fire Company plans to use the funds from the sale of the original building, capital improvement savings, and a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant to make the necessary renovations for phase one (estimated cost $600,000). To reduce costs, Fire Company members completed the necessary demolition work and office improvements. The original fire station was sold in February 2023. Phase one work includes adding larger garage doors to the sides of the building, plumbing/electric/HVAC modifications, creation of a social hall, and updating the existing office space, training room, bathrooms, and crew room. Phase two work includes enclosing the 5,000 square foot canopy in the rear of the building to add two additional garage bays, storage rooms for equipment and supplies, decontamination room, and a training area. Phase two will be partially funded through a grant for $250,000 from the Allegheny County GEDTF program. Phase three is currently not scheduled but the plan includes the addition of bunk rooms and showers for future volunteer staffing and live in program. Check back for pictures of the ongoing project!
